The Brothers formed because the guys were always trying to find places to get a hearty lunch, without spending a fortune. After visiting a number of restaurants that were found to be satisfactory, and a few that weren't, the fellows realized that many people would appreciate this information. After all, a bad lunch is worse than no lunch at all. Since most "traditional" restaurant reviews focus on other aspects of dining, the Big Bass Brothers Restaurant Review was born. The rest, as they say, is the rest. |

What We Do?.....EAT!
The Big Bass Brothers love to eat! We especially like it when we get a lot of good quality food , and don't have to pay alot for it. These are the benchmarks for the Big Bass Brothers. Once a week the Big Bass Brothers get together for a "review". We head out in search of a restaurant that will fill us up, and go easy on the wallet. Mind you, this is not an unbiased accounting of the culinary offerings of Greater Columbus. The Big Bass Brothers are not really interested in the wine list, decor or presentation. ( Although a reasonably clean bathroom is a plus)
Want a "Five Belly" rating? Serve up huge portions of great tasting food and get the Brothers out the door for under $12 a man. Any less than this, and you'll get "dinged". ( a ding equals a drop in rating)
Then each Friday at 3pm and 6pm during the John Corby show on 610 WTVN, the Big Bass Brothers put it on the table. The good, the bad and sometimes the ugly!

What do you guys mean when you give a restaurant "5 Bellies"?
Similar in style to the Mobil "5 Star" rating system, the Big Bass Brothers award a restaurant between 1 and 5 "Bellies". The bottom-dwelling restaurant would receive a "1 Belly" rating, and the best would receive a "5 Belly" rating. "1 Belly" and "5 Belly" ratings are rare. In fact, there are only a handful of restaurants rated by the Big Bass Brothers that have received a unanimous "5 Belly" rating though several have come close. None to date have received a unanimous "1 Belly" rating, although there was a spot that got a zero due to inedible food.
Some of the restaurants that have received a "5 Belly" rating from the Big Bass Brothers are:
- The Thurman Cafe
- Hong Kong Buffet
- Ohio Deli
- The Old Summit Towne
- Old Bag of Nails Pub
- Buckeye Fried Chicken
- Nazareth Deli

Review- Danny's Deli, Huntington Plaza, Downtown March 30, 2007
Wednesday 04-04-2007 8:11pm ET
If there is one restaurant category that is woefully undernourished in Columbus it is the honest-to-goodness deli category. There is the Ohio Deli with the challenging "Dagwood". There is Barry's Deli at the North Market. There is the confoundingly popular, shockingly overpriced, and offendingly unemotional K place in German Village. Yes, I know, there are probably some places we have not discovered yet, so send us their names. But, if someone from out of town showed up and said "hey, where's a good deli nearby?" you'd likely be stumped. Wonder no more. Danny's Deli. Front St. near Broad. Just a cat hair away from being a 5 Belly spot. Go make your own decision...We think you will agree.

Review- EJ's Canyon Cafe, Grandview
Thursday 03-22-2007 7:37am ET
Order the nachos. Formerly Gibby's, EJ's Canyon Cafe now has less of a fern and brass look and more of a rustic lodge feel. It's not a peanut-shells-on-the-floor kind of place, but it's a bit more sporty with several plasma screens distributed throughout the dining and bar area. The nachos are good. We had a mixed bag of grub which included a salad, a buffalo chicken sandwich, a monte cristo sandwich and more. Food quality is very good, price was acceptable but we wouldn't say cheap. Did I mention that we liked the nachos?
